college life

After being in college nearly a month, it's funny how things are put into perspective for you. High school seems like miles away. When someone tells you college is the time of your life, you can't really believe that that's true....it has to be built up. it can't be THAT great. but it really is true. Never in my life have I had so much fun, and been so happy to be on that State campus everyday.
-I've never been a huge football fan, or sports in general for that matter. But after being here only a month, I feel defensive to anything negative said about our bulldogs.
-I have the greatest roommate EVER.
-I love Tri Delta and all of the girls in it so much. They tell you you'll end up being where you belong, and I can't imagine being anywhere else!!
-Niki and Margo are the greatest sisters ever!
-my brother and his girlfriend, Lauren are there for me for every stupid freshman question I have, walking around to my classes, letting me do laundry, and anything else I can possibly think of.
-I don't even mind the lack of sleep I get.
-road trips are being planned, friendships are being made, and I'm having the time of my life!
I'm so happy to be a bulldog :)

Love

I love....
reading random facts
reading quotes that make you think
laying in the sun and listening to music
having a conversation with someone that really makes you feel connected
wearing flip flops
trying on new clothes right after you buy them
not being bored on trips, just because it's something new
having something to look forward to later in the week
finding the perfect gift for someone
laughing so hard it makes your stomach hurt
hearing my newest favorite song on the radio
watching music videos
watching a really good movie that makes you look differently at things
feeling appreciated
funny comments little kids make
knowing every line to a song
Jeep rides
Justin Bieber
feeling pretty
Sushi
Glee!
When lyrics in a song describe exactly what I'm going through
the idea of change, but maybe not the actual process
camping
getting goosebumps from good music
being close to my family
eating breakfast for dinner
singing badly, just because it's fun and I have no other choice
Montreat
the beach
baking (mostly because i get to eat it afterwards )
Urban Outfitters
macbooks
Mississippi State
my cat, Sam sleeping next to me
people being nice for no reason
completing a task and crossing it off my to do list
talking about old memories
getting a call or text from someone you were just thinking about
doing something new
that feeling of accomplishment after finishing a long paper
presbyterian youth council
talking on the phone instead of texting
having someone you can tell anything and everything to, knowing they're always listening

childhood memories

When I was little, I was never bored as long as I had someone else to play with, which occurred pretty often with so many people in the house. My next door neighbor, Laney and I were very creative in our many games. Some of these games included but were not limited to:
teenagers on a farm
babysitters club
restaurant
plays
fashion shows
school
office
library

In teenagers on a farm, we pretended to be orphans that were forced to live on our own. We had play food we used that we had to "find" and make soups and other concoctions in a big metal pot we found. We even had a little green tractor that we would use for authentication. Sometimes we pretended storms would come, and we'd have to seek shelter under our playset in the backyard. We'd carry towels and blankets out and cover it to make a roof and bedding to "sleep" on. Sometimes we'd convince my little sister to play too.

In restaurant, we created our own menus and dining areas all over my grandmother's house, and even the back deck. Everything had to be very authentic, with a cash register, glasses we filled with water for the imaginary customers, and aprons with dish rags for us to clean each table area. Our buckets of play food were used again.

Laney always wrote plays or put together fashion show outfits with my aunt's old clothes stored at my grandmother's house. We'd make her skirts dresses, with a belt around the waist and other crazy ideas. It was always complete with a curtain made of bedsheets strung on a rope. Everyone in the family was forced to attend and watch.

School was my all-time favorite of course. I had my very own room I converted into a schoolroom, complete with a dry erase board, posters, charts, subject centers, a religion table, desk, art closet I painted myself with bins and bins of art supplies, and 8 imaginary students. I had lesson plans and mimicked everything I did at a day at Annunciation Catholic School in elementary school. I even had mass on Thursdays. Every student had a folder filled with work that I copied from text books or typed on the computer, and was completed by my grandmother or myself. Everything was graded with comments written, and stickers for the highest grades. The "students parents" even had to sign a form attached, saying they saw the grades. I would stay in my school room for hours, lecturing to my pretend pupils. I could never get bored. I used to love going to the antique store a few blocks away and get school books to add to my collection. I could never have too many. I loved going to teaching supply stores, getting posters to hang. Everything in my classroom had to be perfect. I had a tree I decorated for every season with cutout snowflakes, flowers, or fall leaves. Stars covered the door with all of the students' names. I even asked my grandmother if we could adopt someone for me to play school with and be my student. Call me crazy, but it was my dream since kindergarten to be a teacher and I planned on getting as much practice as I could.

My life was never dull. I'm so lucky I had grandparents who would let me turn their house upside down to play all of my games. I wish my imagination was still as big as it was then.

mississippi state visit

Yesterday, I visited Mississippi State. I can't wait until college finally gets here! My friend, Rebecca and I went and sat in on 2 of my aunt's English comp. classes. Students asked us if we'd been sitting there all along and they just didn't notice, ha. It was interesting hearing all of them talk about what they were going to write their argument paper on. It had to be about something involving MSU campus life, so of course several were about parking. But did you know that msu has a fly problem in the cafeteria?
In between her classes, we went to the art department and looked at some cool stuff. I never realized I was going to have to walk so much though. How can freshmen gain the freshmen 15 after walking all over campus all day? I also got the chance to go to my brother's girlfriend's Tri Delt sorority house and eat dinner with them. I think rushing would be really fun, and a good way to meet new people.
Overall, it was a great day and made we really look forward to next year! I can't believe it's almost only a semester away. Am I really that close to being a college student?
Well I was told I looked 12 last week by someone, so hopefully I won't look like I don't belong.

aboutme

-I ask a lot of questions in class because I like to be precise and know details
-I like structure and organization, the result of my many many to do lists
-I forgive easily, but I don't forget as easily as I should
-My feelings get hurt easily
-Spanish makes me feel very very dumb
-I really like helping people
-I like to talk alot, it makes me feel like I'm bonding with people
-I don't like to be alone, and get bored easily if I'm not with other people
-I always do things in a rushed motion, even if I'm not any any rush, as Lea likes to point out :) My grandfather says I always walk around like a bull in a china shop
-I like to bake, mostly because I like to eat after
-Once I start something and get really into it like with certain projects, I can't stop until I'm finished
I can't make myself study more then the night before something, as hard as I try and as much as I tell myself that  I won't
-Thinking too deeply about religion and the afterlife and eternity makes my stomach hurt
-I like to please people
-I like to be in control of things, which is just as annoying to me as it probably is to other people
-I like for people to be honest with me, but sometimes I don't think I could handle the truth
-I trust people very easily
-I used to dislike abstract art because I thought it was too simply to make and didn't understand it, now I make it and realize it takes a lot more thought then people think
-I am very close to my whole family, but especially my grandfather. When I was little I worried about dying and I said that when he died, I wanted to go in the hole with him because I didn't want him to ever leave me
-I get stressed very easily
-I over think and analyze things a lot
-I love kids. I've wanted to be an elementary school teacher since I was in pre-school, but wonder if I have enough patience for it.
-Figuring out what to do with the rest of my life scares me.
-I've always wished I could sing well and be decent at sports, sadly I wasn't given these gifts :/
-I could spend all day lying on the beach, reading a book
-I like reading random facts

camping

This weekend, a group of my friends and I, along with 2 teachers went hiking right after homecoming. We rushed home right after to take showers and finish packing and met up to leave for the Sipsey wilderness. After a two hour drive, we hiked in the dark with headlamps to our campsite, where we set up our tents and put on layers of clothes to stay warm. Due to no rain lately, we were not allowed to start a fire :( But after a long day, we were ready for sleep. The next morning, we hiked 3 miles to Big Tree, the biggest poplar in Alabama, 25 feet wide and 150 feet tall. After arriving, we ate lunch and Ms. Oswalt got out our "art supplies.....in the woods" as Hagan says. After hiking 6 miles and wondering if we'd ever see camp again, we finally arrived right before dark and began making dinner. The next morning we woke up cold so attempted to warm our hands with tea candles with little success. We did learn though not to pour water on candles to try to put them out though :)
Sadly, we had to leave that morning to head back to Columbus to work on our I.B. History internal assessments...bumper. But overall, it was a great trip and a lot of fun! I hope we all get to go back again in the spring before we graduate.

scavenger hunt

For my 18th birthday, I had a picture scavenger hunt. We divided into groups of four and went all over town to take pictures of stupid things, such proposing to a stranger, getting wal mart employees to do the Charlie's Angels pose, dancing with a senior citizen, doing the YMCA in front of the Y, etc. Each task was worth a certain number of points. At the end, the points were totaled and the winners chosen. Of course Meriweather, Drew, Ricky, Rachel, and I won....we were known as the destroyers after all. We were so legit we even had bandannas.
One of the greatest moments was when Meriweather had to dance with a senior citizen and we ended up asking this creepy man in front of Burger King. He kept trying to dance after we had already taken the picture. Or possibly asking a lady in wal mart if her child could be in a dog pile with us, and she declined and gave us a strange look.

Thanks for coming and making it a great birthday guys :)
